What Happens If you Don't Service Fire Extinguishers?
Fire extinguishers should be inspected and serviced every year by a professional technician. When fire extinguishers are not serviced regularly, their internal parts may become corroded, depressurized, or otherwise damaged.
A cracked or broken gauge is one of the most common reasons why a fire extinguisher fails its annual inspection and must be repaired immediately before being used again.
If a fire extinguisher is used or the pin has been pulled, it should also be inspected due to depressurization prior to the annual fire marshall inspection.
Local Fire Extinguisher Service Requirements
During this inspection, the technician will check the pressure gauge on the fire extinguisher and see if there are any leaks or other signs of damage. If there is any damage found during this inspection, it should be repaired immediately or replaced before the tag is updated.
Once the fire extinguishers are serviced, the tags will be updated by the inspector to prove compliance to the fire marshall.
